I kept telling myself....

that i would do better blogging.. but I haven't.

So Anyway I had bought a pair of Asics back at the end of September-I think. They never did feel right but I kept with them. the past few weeks I have been having major arch pain and I had a hard time running. I am not sure the Mileage in them, some days I would say I don't want to hurt so I would put on my old Saucony's. and wa la no pain! I finally broke down and got a new pair. I was waiting for an extra $100 to come along. Well this past Wednesday I got an email from a local running store. the email was titled save the pig! I opened it and was reading along they said if you put a quarter in a piggy bank for every mile you run after 400 miles (about when you need new shoes) you will have $100 (the cost of new shoes) well this Saturday they would give anyone who came in a piggy bank, and if you bought shoes they would put a couple dollars in it. cool right? Well I didn't have $100 :( so I put it out of my mind but really liked the idea of the quarter per mile. Well Don got paid for a couple of jobs so I took some money and I got me new shoes today! and a piggy with 2 bucks in it (I ran 8 miles this morning too!) so I am a happy owner of new Saucony's that I love! I had them before my Asic's. I seriously can't wait to run on Monday!!
On the topic of running.... I started my first Marathon training this week! I have only been running about 10 miles per week and I jumped to 27 this week. My knee told me so this morning with a couple stings. I also have given up my favorite beverage and it has been hard in the afternoons when I am soo tired and just want a Diet Coke. I have been trying to take little power naps before the kids get home from school.

Upcoming races:
I have a 5k on February 12th. this is called the Sweethearts run. I don't know if my sweet heart wants to run :) but my sister's are and my dad too! I am really looking forward to it!
I also have Canyonlands Half Marathon March 19th. I am excited to put an other half under my belt! I have been getting registered for all the runs I want to do this year and watching for a few more to open up.

In Closing:
I hope my foot pain will cease and I can keep running injury free. oh and my average pace is coming down!! I have also started running with a heart rate monitor which I really like!

catch up!

October was a big month! On Oct 9th I got up and ran a 10k (my first official one) and it was great! I then went to a 5k called the undead race. This race was so fun! most everyone was dressed up as zombies or survivor's. I wish I wouldn't have procrastinated on these.
I then headed of to Las Vegas where I learned to play roulette and stayed up late every night! also Don won $500 dollars!! BUT the main reason we went was so I could run the Las Vegas Ragnar :) It was a blast and I didn't journal it :( On to November, I did find a run I did the Utah Human Race 10k which was on Thanksgiving morning. I almost made my goal of finishing under an hour but I did it in like 1:01. :(
Oh in October I registered for the Ogden Marathon!!! EEK! Maybe I already posted that.... I also found a new running partner since Jen stopped running after TOU. I run with a gal Hayley who I went to high school with. She ended up going into a quick in/out surgery on her foot. It wasn;t anything major but it put her out for a couple weeks and then with the Christmas holiday she has grown out of shape. it is amazing how quickly you get out of shape an dhow hard t is to get back in shape.
Well that brings up to today. I got up early and in less than 10 degree weather to run a 5k. a few weeks ago I challenged Wendy and Bridgette to do the couch to 5k program and I would run a 5k with them. That was today Wendy worked so hard an dis really loving running and Bridgette doesn't really care at all, which is fine. But we all did it today. It was a blast! Wendy set a goal to make it in 45 minutes and she achieved the goal!
Well that's the catch up. A new year. Oh I ran 600 Miles last year! I am hoping to double it this year. I have a few 5k I'm looking at a couple half's, at least one full and a couple Ragnar's.

prerace jitter?

so this weekend I have two runs! YES TWO RUNS!! I don't mind, even if the second one will probably not be in the running for a PR. I am doing a 10k in the morning and a 5k in the afternoon.
I think it is strange that I am a little nervous since this is my first 10k (Does the Dirty Dash really count, really?) I have ran over 6 many times and even ran the half marathon so I shouldn't be nervous but I am. I think that maybe it is because my sisters will be there doing the 6k walk. I am so happy they are getting out and joining me. They trained a tiny bit but not as much to get the fitness fever. :)
So this weekend I almost feel like I'm coming full circle. My first 5k was the Love Your Body 5k last August and back then I decided this year I would run the 10k. so I have come full circle and made it the year. I set a goal and made it! AMAZING! I think I will feel pretty accomplished with this run. I loved it so much last year!

The Dirty Dash!

My most anticipated run of the summer!!
It was sooo fun! ok with that out of the way :)..

I decided to find ateam and so I posted on FB to see if there was interest. I had a team within 90 minutes!! As the months rolled by we lost one due to injuries, then another because she wanted to run with the other. picked up two quickly lost one of those gals two days before the race but luckily I knew someone who had told me she would love to do it so I called many times during the day till I contacted her and she was in!!
so our team consisted of me, JaNae Hutchins, Laura Murdock, Lisa Clayton and Kim Karras. You will recognize Laura and JaNae from priar races and Lisa was actually on our ragnar team jus tin teh other van. Kim is my cousin.
we got up early and Drove out to Laura's house to leave by 7:30am. as soon as everyone was there we were on our way to Soldier Hollow, It was about an hour drive. as we pulled up to the resort we saw the HUGE water slide! well we got there and walked around for a bit then it was our time to line up to run! Our wave started at 9:40am, it was the first team Wave the other two before us were single runners.
So we started up a muddy hill to a ginormous sprinkler. then we trail ran to another water atraction that was a fire house thru a fan and it was sooo cold!. run run!! to the hay bales, I think there were 5-6 different ones to jump/climb over. more trail runs to some tubes to crawl thru. run run to some WALLS! to climb over!! there were 4-5 and it was MUDDY there too! I slipped and fell and then proceded to laugh soo hard I was about crying!!then we ran down a big hill and thru some tires. and run run to the lake (Deer Creek) and we saw there were two paths so we decided to take the muddy way and it was fabulously stinky!! haha! run run thru the trails to another big hill up to the HUGE waterslide we saw! But I found Don there with the camera! we ran up the hill and down the slide we went!! into a big muddy pit we slipped and slid thru down to the finish line where there was a big mud pit of water! now before we started they said they wanted everyone crawling thru it so we did as told and crawled thru it! I don't think there was a clean part on my body!!
Finish line we got cameras at us at all angles so I have plenty of pictures that I am thinking will be best put in a slide show so I will get it up in the next few days.

So on eof the exciting parts of this run was that they had a piglet plunge for kids! well my kids were soo excited!! We had visited the DI thrift store and found some matching soccer uniforms for Jacob and Cora, and my nephews Tommy and Adam. Owen decided the next day he did want to do it but I never made it back to find another shirt. I heard there I was supposed to run with them so I did.

Now that it is over I have to say it was soo fun. I have not done hills for a long time so it was very tiring. I think this was truely the hardest run I have done but also the funnest. I don't think I have been this sore this quickly either! Plus I have scraped up knees and scrape and bump on my butt and scrapes down my thigh :) gotta love the battle wounds!!

some days I just can't

I have really been struggling this week with running. I'm not sure why. I planned to get up and do 8-10 this morning and when I couldn't sleep I decided I would do it in the evening and it never happened. after I ran teh half I was so ready to get back out there and I did but now ugh I am really trying to but just not feeling it. It is frustrating. I just need to keep thinking about the dirty dash next week. I gotta run at least one 6 miles this week cuz I want to be ready for next week!
On a happy note Don has started to cycle which is exciting and maybe I will join him. :)

Mapleton Moonlight Half Marathon

So I guess this makes me half way to a life long goal. to run a marathon! haha!

This is my first ever half marathon. A few months ago I decided I wanted to do a half this fall and the one I really wanted to sold out before I finally decided to sign up. I've learned my lesson! I will sign up when I really want to do something! Anyone so this one was by default and I had friends that were doing it so I was talked into doing it. I started to actually train for it about 6 weeks ago and ran up to 12 miles. The past week or so my legs started to feel very heavy and coming into this week they continued to feel sore. I know why I almost doubled my mileage for the month (right now I'm at 97 miles!!) I actually woke up the day of the race and my foot hurt, my knee hurt it was my subconscience trying to psych me out. lol I was mostly anxious during the day. Anxious to get there and be in the moment. I love a good race day party! So I had originally planned to drive down with JaNae, Laura Debra and Kelli but Don couldn't find anyone to hunt with this weekend so I told him I would meet him down at our property and go with him in the morning.

I dropped the kids off to my moms and headed out. As I drove it was pouring rain. It looked cold! The wind was crazy! rain going in every direction. then it cleared up! then it started again!! As you can tell by the title this was not a morning run. We actually pick what time we want to start depending on our pace that would put us over the finish line at midnight without a watch and start at that time. I had planned to start at 9:36. that was about an 11 m/m (mile/minute). JaNae had told me that they were gonna start about 9:50. I told them that is fine I am really a slow runner.

I got down to the park thru the rain at about 6:30 and got my packet and sat in the car hoping it would at least lighten up! and it finally did and the sun even tried to shine thru. The other girls showed up not long after me and we chatted and got all our glow sticks and necklaces attached and got on our 8:30 bus to the start line. by the time we got to the start line (up the canyon) it was dark! We hung around for a while and then all decided to start at 9:25. too anxious! They started out pretty fast and I didn't really want to so I kind of fell back and they kept trying to wait for me but I told them to go ahead it was all good. I ran and it sprinkled. They stopped at one point and I caught up with them. they started again and got ahead. we had to run just under 2 miles up the canyon then turn around. As we headed back down I caught up with them again and a lady took our picture and they kind of all slowed down but I kept going not wanting to loose my pace. I didn't see them again till mile 7. At one point it was pouring rain!! And the crickets were soo loud! I paused my music to just listen to nature! it was beautiful!! It was soo dark with the cloud cover! I didn't even feellike I was getting wet but it was such a down pour! It lightened up and I hit play and kept on running! So at about mile 3.5 was the first water station which I stopped long enough to be handed a cup of gatorade, drink and dispose of the cup and I was off! I ran As I ran down the canyon there were tons of rolling hills. I decided I would much rather run up a hill than down. It was soo nice when the clouds started to break and I could see the stars! The glow bracelets were driving me crazy so I took them off and I had some stuck in my hair I took them off and my hat and attached my head lamp to my shirt. At mile 7 was the next water station. I drank a cup of water and a cup of gatorade here. It was my longest stop. maybe a minute? as I was getting ready to head off JaNae found me. She had broken from the other girls and was on her own too. we ran for probably 1/4 mile and she went on. she is such a fast runner! so I was again on my own. Mile 8 hit This was my breaking point. I was in pain I hadn't walked except thru the water stations. My knee was really bothering me and I think I was more of a quick up and down walk more than a run. I knew I had to go on and I knew if I stopped I would just hurt more and not get going again so I kept going. Mile nine hit and I thought Oh My gosh only 4 more miles! I can do this!! I got goose bumps after every mile marker after this getting so much closer to my goal. Also along with mile nine my exhaustion was gone and I sped back up and kept a good pace the rest of the race! At the last water station it was awesome we ran thru someones garage (it went thru the corner of a block so it's like we cut the corner) and the water was in there I didn't stop for that one I yelled out water and someone stuck one in my hand I knew I couldn't stop! at about 11.5 I even sped up knowing I had less than 20 minutes left to run! There was one girl that I would pass and she would pass me, you know the type I paced myself with her for a while and ran along side and she sped up. at about mile 12 I knew I wanted to beat her so I sped up and left her in my dust. I wonder what my mile 12 pace was cuz I felt like I was going pretty fast (for me anyway) as I FINALLY saw the finish coming up people were peeking at their phones and hidden watches a lot of people were walking so I knew I was early but I didn't care my ultimate goal was to be under 2:30. I sped up and passed a few people. as I ran down to the finish line a burst of energy came over me and I totally passed a girl right before the finish line! It was sooo awesome!! I finished at 11:50 (a quick head turn because the timer was hidden). I quickly did the math and was soo happy I exceeded my goal by 5 minutes! Oh as I ran down the line I heard a "Go Sheri!!" awe JaNae was cheering me on! she had finished almost 20 minutes before me. I told her I ran the WHOLE thing!! She said she wished she had not stopped and walked with the other girls. About 5 minutes after me the other 3 came across the line and we met up with them.

This was easier than I thought it was gonna be. I guess I just totally had it built up in my head it was goona be really hard. Right after I knew I can do a marathon! Now I just hope I can wait to do it next spring!

Next race: The Dirty Dash!
